Perdue permits Sunday beer sales at Gwinnett stadium[May.14.2008]By The Associated Press
Perdue, a conservative Christian who doesn't drink, gave his OK to a measure that allows beer to be sold at Sunday games at a Gwinnett County stadium set to host an Atlanta Braves farm team. The governor has been a vocal opponent of Sunday alcohol sales at grocery and convenience stores, saying it could lead to an increase in DUI accidents. A Perdue spokesman referred to comments the governor made in March to explain why the issues are different. Perdue called the Gwinnett stadium ``an economic development project'' with a specific purpose. Supporters of Sunday sales at stores say it is safer to buy alcohol to consume at home. Perdue also signed a bill Tuesday allowing limousine drivers to sell alcohol to passengers, and another that would allow Georgians to buy wine over the Internet. |
